Improving Health, Re-enabling Independence and Connecting People
Together we're supporting people living with neurological conditions and their family carers.
Leuchie has come a long way since becoming an independent charity 15 years ago, when the threat of closure inspired the community and Leuchie team to rally together to ‘Save Leuchie’. That same spirit of determination continues to define us today.
With your help we now support over 600 people living with neurological conditions and their unpaid family carers each year. Every day we see a growing demand for our services, and we want to do all that we can to meet this need.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, we are using our knowledge and expertise from Leuchie House to expand support through accessible self-catering breaks, Leuchie at Home, and re-enabling technology. In this Impact Report, you can read more about how Leuchie is doing this, the difference your support makes, and the next stage of our journey.
Neurological conditions are the leading cause of disability and ill health worldwide
Today in Scotland 100,000 people are disabled as a result of a neurological condition.
These conditions don't just affect individuals, they re-shape entire families.
Leuchie has been a lifeline, to all of us.
Sharon, Leuchie House guest
Having this time has helped reduce the strain on our relationship. It's lovely to see Elizabeth get a break and I look forward to my time with Sally.
Andrew, Leuchie at Home
For many carers for people living with neurological conditions care is constant.
Families step in with love but without the right support pressure can become overwhelming.
A break can make all the difference.
Gordon
Gordon lives with primary progressive MS. As his condition progressed, long hillwalks became minutes, his mobility declined, and his world began to shrink.
After his wife Kate died, his daughter moved him into her home and became his main carer. She did it with love, but the responsibility was constant, and both of them needed time to rest.
Gordon felt anxious and out of place on his first day at Leuchie, but that quickly changed. He found specialist care, physiotherapy, practical advice, and people who understood. He also found something he had been missing: confidence, friendship, and connection.
At Leuchie we provide more than just a break.
