A typical day at Leuchie House

Every day at Leuchie is different, and so is every Leuchie guest. Here’s how three of our guests spent their time at Leuchie House.

Jane's day

After breakfast in the dining room, Jane and two other guests she's become friendly with, take a trip to Beach Wheelchairs in the accessible car.  Stevie is driving and two care assistants accompany them.

Beach Wheelchairs, a local charity providing beach wheelchairs, enables access to the beautiful beach in North Berwick.

Jane comes back in time for lunch in the dining room and then spends the afternoon in the Quiet Room socialising with other guests.

In the evening after dinner, Jane enjoys 'Name that tune' - an activity put on by the Guest Engagement Team at Leuchie.

She decides to go to bed early and read.

Iain's day

After breakfast, Iain is going on a Microlight flight! It was a present from his wife for his birthday. Two care assistants go with him to drive and hoist him into the microlight.

He flies over Leuchie House and the East Lothian countryside!

After, he comes back for lunch in the dining room and tells the guests on his table, and the Leuchie team, all about it.

The sun comes out around 2pm so Iain sits in the grounds with some guests and has a celebratory glass of fizz for his birthday. Later he goes into the sensory room in the therapy shed and enjoys the massage bed and the spa music.

He enjoys another delicious home - cooked meal in the dining room for dinner and then spends the evening in the tv room with some other guests.

Colin's day

Colin didn't sleep well so he decides to have breakfast in bed. Once the nurses have been around with his meds, he goes to the quiet room.

There is a Tai Chi class on, which he enjoyed during his last visit.  It's created for people with MS specifically but is also great for people with other neurological conditions.

After lunch, he goes down to the Therapy gym to stand on the standing frame and have his wheelchair assessed. It's a great feeling to stand in the frame and stretch out his body with our physio, Louise. His wheelchair is altered because Louise notices that over time his lateral supports have moved slightly and are no longer providing the support he needs. His cushion is checked and adjusted to make sure the correct pressure relief is being provided.

He tells Louise about his restless night and the pain in his back and she helps him with some hands-on therapy and advice and then speaks to the nursing team about his night time positioning to try to relieve the spasms he is experiencing. Louise advises him to take part in the seated exercise class running the next morning and then she speaks to Anna, the Therapy Assistant, who arranges for a sensory room session and use of the CycloMassage bed – Anna shows him how to select programmes that are beneficial to his sore back and lets him enjoy the ambient sounds and aromatherapy whilst receiving his massage.

After that he goes to the Quiet Room for afternoon tea which is served on a Thursday.

It's the last night of the holiday so it's Dinner Party night. His table talk about the highlights of the holiday and enjoy a really good bottle of wine.

Afterwards, there's entertainment from a magician. He stays up late with two other guests who have become really good friends over the years and is looking forward to a chat with Katy from bookings in the morning about his next break.
